Café con Leche

Café con Leche is a digital illustration created as a tribute to my paternal grandmother. It captures a moment of nostalgia—one that lives in my body as much as in my memory. I recall sitting at her kitchen table, waiting for her to serve me a small dish: a snack, té, or café. While I waited, I would trace the flowers on her oilcloth table covering with my fingers.

When she could, she doted on me. I miss those moments—staring at her colorful oil tablecloths while she spoke to me about anything and everything, stretching our time together just a little longer. I was a child then, unaware of how fleeting those encounters were. Knowing what I know now, I would have stayed seated at her table a bit longer.

As an adult, I return to that table in my imagination. I wonder how things might have been different, how our conversations would have unfolded had I been able to meet her as I am now. This piece is for her memory—for nostalgia, for life, and for the quiet weight of shared experiences.
